The Reverend Simon Brignall
Simon's 'working' days as Vicar are Thursday to Sunday each week.
Before coming to Coln, Hatherop and Quenington Simon was Rector at Saint Paul´s Cathedral in Valparaiso, Chile. Between 2015 and 2018 he was Chaplain to Saint Peter´s Church in Viña del Mar. Before that Simon was a parish priest in Dorset. Simon is married to Clare; they have five adult children.
Our church dates from the 13th century, but has been added to over the centuries the south porch is late Norman, the chancel's lancet windows are 13th century, the tower was completed in the 15th century and the church was restored in the Victorian era. The chancel was refurbished in the early 20th century in commemoration of the First Earl St Aldwyn, his son and wife who all died in 1916.
John Keble senior was vicar here for 40 years and his son John was curate for 10 years. John junior wrote "The Christian Year", arguably the most popular volume of verse written in the nineteenth century. Keble was appointed to the Chair of Poetry at Oxford in 1831, a post which he held until 1841 He founded the Oxford Movement and Keble College was built in his name. Their ministry is commemorated in stained glass windows on the east side of the chancel.
We have a lively choir of over 60 members which enhances our worship on Feast days and special occasions. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at 8pm and all are welcome.
